Title: Romancing the Bookworm
Author: Kate Evangelista
Release date: July 9, 2013
Publisher: Omnific Publishing
Age Group: New Adult
Genre: Contemporary romance

Sometimes, even the best-laid plans can unravel.

It's spring break, and Tamara Winters would rather stay on campus and read romance novels than flaunt her size-fourteen body on a beach. But her best friend, Rony, has other ideas. Against her wishes, Tamara is whisked away to picturesque Maverick Bay, where she's wrangled into waiting tables with Rony at the Shore Shack for its busy week leading to Maverick's Surf Invitational. There she meets fellow schoolmate Xavier Solomon, the Invitational's organizer and campus womanizer by reputation. From the moment Tamara sees him emerging from the waves like a hero in of one of her romance novels, all she wants to do is run away from the feelings he inspires in her.

Little does she know Xavier has been watching her for weeks now. In fact, after failed attempts at asking her out on campus, he's concocted a crazy plan: fabricating romantic situations straight out of her favorite books. Xavier quickly realizes that if Tamara gets a whiff of his designs, he might as well spell CREEPER across his forehead. Yet as they grow closer, he's convinced it's a risk worth taking. What he hasn't planned on, of course, is his drug-addicted, alcoholic stepbrother, who decides to join the fun and put a wrench in Xavier’s scheme.

Spring break is proving hotter than Tamara expected. Will her romance novels be able to compete?

My Review:

I didn’t have to think twice about reading Romancing the Bookworm by Kate Evangelista I’m happy to say I loved this book from the minute I started reading. I devoured about as quickly as Tamara reads her own books.

This story was cute on so many angles, I loved the plot. It was nice to get my nose out of some of my more recent dark reads and to read something so cute and endearing. Not to say there aren’t issues. Everyone has their issues but I didn’t feel like I had a dark cloud following me while reading. (Not that I don’t love my angst filled books)

I didn’t connect as quickly with Tamara as I did with Xavier. The book is dual perspectives and we actually start off with Xavier. She was almost too bookish, is that even possible? Ha ha. I have to say though I loved the fact that she didn’t fit into your normal heroine role. She has curves and she’s proud of them. Although she sometimes has her moments where she doesn’t want to hang out with some of the stick thin girls on the beach but I loved that she would be back to full confidence in only a short amount of time. Tamara was sweet but she could dish it out as much as she could take it. Although she had a tendency to compare things to her books (my reason I called her too bookish) she had some good points. Even though

Xavier, can this guy be any cuter. He’s one of those good looking sweet guys but he is so funny. He often tries to do awesome things, like come out of the water looking all James Bond sexy and then something will go awry. I love the fact that he is really trying because even hot guys can have crushes. He has a good heart and it shows through pretty early in the book.

Some good supporting characters, which is always a huge plus for me in the books I read. Ronnie, who is Tamara’s best friend, is always trying to get her to loosen up and get her nose out of the books. Hudson, Ronnie’s brother who, the poor guy, has all these crazy love dramas going on around him. Then there is Zander, Xavier’s brother and he is kind of like the flat tire when you really need to get somewhere.

The book takes place over Spring Break but it also a great summer read. Seriously you need to grab this one before you head to the beach.
