So Jen asked me to describe my writing space. This is a very fun question as I have many different writing spaces. For my ‘day’ job, I travel quite a bit. I’m always in airports, airplanes, hotel rooms and the like. To pass the time I either read or write. I find it very inspirational to write in a public place as the people watching is just so fascinating. I think airports are the best for this. All types of people traveling to and from all kinds of different places. Mom’s dragging their kids. A business woman running down the hall in her heels. The college boy’s baseball team walking in a pack with tons of McDonald’s bags. The ideas and characters to put into a book are really endless.
When I’m at my house I write on the right cushion of the loveseat in my living room (that is where I’m writing this.) This cushion sits lower than all the other cushions in the room because when I get on a roll, I don’t get up. Sometimes my dog sits in the cushion next to me. Or on my feet. She’s a great writing buddy.
The last place I write is at my local Starbucks, usually with one of my best friends, author Jessica Salyer. We have cowritten together and it really is a lot more fun to sit across from each other and write than to write by myself. When I’m not traveling so much, we go here fairly often. The baristas know us by name.
