In the first book of the new futuristic dystopian series from author Lisa T. Bergren, the chosen remnants must work to redirect humanity’s course.
The year is 2095. Gifted teens known as Remnants have been chosen and trained to act as humanity’s last hope to rectify the horrors that are now part of everyday life.
The Community has trained these teens as warriors and assigned them Knights of the Last Order as protectors. Together, they are a force that will be difficult to bring down.
But the Sons of Sheol, of course, are determined to do just that. As the Remnants begin their mission to course-correct humanity by saving and protecting key individuals, their enemies move to stop them, placing the entire world in peril.
Bestselling author Lisa T. Bergren presents the first book in her new YA futuristic dystopian series—The Remnants Novels—fitting in with the current dystopian trend in the marketplace.

Lisa T. Bergren has some seriously good storytelling in Remnants. It sucked me from the moment I started reading. The imagery is fantastic and even though my brain had to kind of sort out what each person was I loved it. I found the world building fascinating because it is our world but in the future but it’s been ravaged by war and climate change.

The romance is so subtle and explosive at the same time. This is true forbidden love and I love the stolen touches and secret glances that Adrianna and Ronan exchange. Building up to something greater.

I loved the different cities, trader post and so forth. I really kind of wanted to draw a map that overlayed over the current world just to see where things are exactly. Certain cities reminded me of things from ancient text, like the city of Zannibar. I felt myself thinking I can’t believe the world would revert back to that, but I also found it believable which made me sad.

Love the idea of the Ailith and their knights. It was interesting to me that they are paired with the opposite sex and then say don’t fall in love. Like that might be breeding trouble. Although who set the rules, I think they were trying to make the point that they are supposed to have a greater purpose and need to abstain from anything that might distract them from that purpose. Or maybe the maker knew that it might create a greater bond of love between them, It’s one of those things that can be left up to interpretation. Totally love that. I thought it was cool that they had these high gifts and they are all different and need to work as a team to combine their powers. It was like the makers way of making sure that no one person would have too much power.

I loved all the characters, the good and the bad. The Prince twins intrigued me and I really liked what made the Ailith good and what made the Sheolites bad. Plus I loved that the characters functioned as a group on the adventure and had this bond of camaraderie because of their purpose.

I loved the adventure, it played out well. With the little missions they would complete here and there and in a way finding people to join their cause. It was cool how it wasn’t just leading to one giant battle there was individual battles as well. They are not just trying to overthrow a ruler they are trying to change a society's way of thinking.

I really loved this book. I adored the writing, as I said Lisa is an excellent storyteller. I really loved the characters and the plot. Aces all around.

So…here’s the thing. I know readers love to think about who I would cast for my various characters. But honestly, these characters are usually a combination of several different people in my head. Characteristics, looks, voice…none of them are ever one actor in my head. And if some rich director said, “Lisa, let’s cast this baby—it’s going to be a movie!” I’d probably lobby to have casting calls across the country to find just the right kids—with the right looks, the right mannerisms.

But if I HAD to cast the Remnants and their Knights tonight, and if I could assume all these pretty people on the web were good actors, I’d choose this crew for my “dream cast”:

Kaya Scodelario: Andriana (but with blue-green eyes!)

Adam Gregory: Ronan

A younger Tyson Beckford: Niero

James McAvoy: Keallach/Kapriel (because I bet he could play both roles--soulfully good or wicked-but-trying)

A more-Italian looking Asher Book: Vidar

Camilla Belle: Bellona

Ryan Hansen: Killian (but with dreadlocks)

Rose Leslie: Tressa

Qiao Zhen Yu: Chaza’el
