Q: Do you mind books with similar ideas to other books? Similar concepts, backgrounds, retellings or pulled-to-publish fanfic?

No I don't really mind because I think that happens often. A dystopia novel is going to have a world that is destoryed in one way or another. So all dystopia novels have the same basic idea. I think a book find it's own way to be unique though. I love retellings of things like myths and fairy tales. I've never been that into fanfics though and there are definitely a lot of them in the anime/manga world. I'm not sure why but I feel like when a series is done I'm done with the characters. Not that I always want to be but more of it's just the way it should be.

So I'm going to the Ally Condie book signing next week and I decided that...If I'm going to get my books signed it seems stupid to have two hardcover books and one paperback. So I'm replacing my paperback copy of Matched with a hardcover and that means my paperback is up for grabs. Not only is it up for grabs but I am also willing to cart it along with me to the signing and have it signed and personalized for whoever wins it.

So @entangledteen is allowing the readers to choose where to have Jennifer L. Armentrout's Opal Release Party. It's been narrowed down to five cities and Chicago is one of them. So why should you VOTE for Chicago? Why because it's the best city around! Just look at this view and you can find spots like this all over the city.

Not only that, out of the five cities Chicago is the one that is most centrally located in the country. That means shorter plane flights for everyone!!! Not only that we have two airports to accommodate the trillions of people who will be out for the signing!! These are not the only reason I think Chicago is grand, just think Pizza, Hot Dogs and Garretts Popcorn. The Magnificent Mile and State Street, which at this time of the year will have the windows decorated for Christmas. If you are not a fan of being in the actual city you can stay out in the Burbs and it's only a train ride to get to downtown. It's also a huge sports city so if you need to drag along a companion (this is the case with my husband) they won't be disappointed! I could probably go on forever as to why you would want to not only come to Chicago for the Release Party but also just to visit. There's a reason there are songs written about Sweet Home Chicago!!!

Yep (schedule permitting) he will be there too..I was able to meet them both in Georgia this summer and I can tell you.....they are awesome!!

Book Haul: Sunday Post

So the time change has had me off all day. Who knew that gaining and hour could make me so tired. Anyway I did spend some time wandering aimlessly around a couple of bookstores. I really do wander aimlessly, I'm surprised they don't kick me out for being some strange girl who has spent and hour going up and down the same aisle. I did pick up some books, some for my kids and some for me.

I had missed the Jessica Shirvingtong signing at Andersons a week or two ago. So I picked up autograph copies of her books. I love the cover of Entice.

Then I moved on to Barnes and Noble to pick up the manga version on The Infernal Devices...(can you tell I had coupons)

 

Even though I seem to find myself fighting my son over my Nook, I did pick up a bunch of ebooks. They were free and I was kind of cover shopping. With the exception of Roar and Liv, which I don't why I read it because now I'm even more anxiously awaiting Through the Ever Night then I was before.

 

 

 

So that's it for books. The YA Mythology giveaway is finishing up and I am going to be posting about another giveaway tonight or tomorrow. Also a post about why the Opal release party should be in Chicago.

Q: What is a deal breaker for you in a book? For example, do you abhor love triangles? Or can't deal with bad editing?

I have a hard time when I don't like a main character. If the main character is spending the majority of the book getting on my nerves then it makes it difficult to read. Sometimes side characters will make up for it but it's rough. I'm not talking about when I get frustrated with a main character because there are moments like that in every book, it's the don't open the door the murderer is on the other side thing.
