I also make sure to go back and follow everyone that comments and I try to always follow twitter along with GFC/Linky. So if you have a twitter that is not on your page for some reason leave it in the comments and I will follow you that way too!

Q:  What do you hope to accomplish with your blog? Is it to one day become an author yourself, just for fun, maybe get some online attention, or maybe something very different?

I've always like making websites for my interest, so I really started it for fun. I realized though how much I really love authors and appreciate their hard work, so I love being able to get the word out about their books. I come up with stories in my head all the time but they never make it down to paper, in a way this is the next best thing. I just wish I had more time so I could write a million reviews a day!

YA Review: Oracle: Fire Island by C.W. Trisef

Title: Oracle: Fire Island
Series: Oracle Series
Author: C.W. Trisef
Author Info: Website / Twitter / Goodreads / Facebook
Pub Date: March, 2012
Publisher: Trisef Book LLC
Format: paperback
Pages: 323

Summary:

The adventure continues! With the first element (earth) painfully collected within the Oracle, Ret Cooper and his friends return home to find that things are only heating up. Thanks to some mischief caused by the peculiar Benjamin Coy, Ret’s second scar makes its explosive debut. But what does it mean, and where will it take them? These questions gnaw at Ret as he begins his sophomore year at Tybee High.

With challenging twists, inspired turns, and a few unexpected surprises, our hero once again confronts danger and disaster, while discovering newfound feelings for a certain female companion. Old friends and foes, along with a few new ones, follow Ret as more of our world’s mysteries lead him to Fire Island and the second element (fire). Ancient artifacts, a hot-air balloon, lines in the desert, a city in the mountains, tribal societies, and even the navel of the world all play their parts in Ret’s continued quest to fill the Oracle.

This second installment in the Oracle series is a must read, full of fun, adventure, and wholesome purpose. Hang on tight as author C.W. Trisef takes you to places and predicaments you have never seen before or even imagined, and makes you feel like you are a part of Ret’s destiny, to cure the world.

Review:

I was excited to jump back into the Oracle series with Ret and his friends. These books just appeal to my Science side and I am amazed at how C.W. Trisef can make the unreal make sense. I was awed by it in the first book and wasn’t let down in this book either.

This book picks up where the last book leaves off and rather than just jumping onto the next thing, it does a good job of wrapping up the last adventure. It’s not one of those instances where you wonder how nobody noticed this World altering event took place.
I love Ret as the main character but he is still got some growing up to do. I like though how active the adults are in guiding him. They give him insight that he needs to kind of figure things out. He is definitely still finding himself out and to me it makes him endearing. He’s not perfect he has flaws and that is something that I’m greatly fond of in characters. I also like the slow blooming romance with Paige.
What I really liked about this book was that the characters broke off into groups and kind of had their own separate stories. It wasn’t all of them together all the time and it was nice to have that. It gives some of the characters the ability to shine a little more on their own.
I have to admit I have a strange fondness for Ben Coy, he can be a really arrogant jerk but there is just something about him that gives you the impression that he is really looking out for the kids. It might also be because I want to live in his house! I love the planetarium!  I found Pauline to be less annoying in this book. I remember her kind of driving me nuts sometimes in the first book. Paige holds steady as likable character for me and same with Ana.
The best thing about the plot is that there is so much that I find fascinating. I felt like looking up more information about Machu Pichu and Easter Island. I feel like it’s such a great thing to engage me as a reader in that way. I just find myself so fascinated with all of the different worlds that are created in our own existing world.  I love all of the gadgets that Mr. Coy comes up with and I can imagine someone actually inventing them. On the back of the book as well as on the website there are pictures of Machu Picchu and Easter Island, plus a little history. Honestly, I kind of want to go there now…
Argh the cliffhanger, there were two parts to this one. It was one of those where I flipped a couple pages after the last one thinking, hold on you are going to leave it hanging like that. Well it did and now of course I have to read the next book.
It’s a series that I’m going to keep reading because the books have kept me engaged completely through both of them. I’ve never felt like I’m shocked that there is going to be seven books. I have really enjoyed the first two.
I’m also starting to be convinced that C.W. Trisef is floating around in an invisible hot air balloon….

Q: What is the BIGGEST word you've seen used in a book lately - that made you stop and look it up? Might as well leave the definition & book too.

I haven't run into any words that are too big for me to understand lately but sometimes I get fake language mixed up. When an author creates a fantasy world there are a bunch of words they created themselves. Usually they have their own little dictionary in the book and I often have to double check the meaning.

Guest Post: Rachel Roberts (Avalon: Web of Magic)

I'm excited to have Rachel Roberts stop by to give us some writing tips. I know I need all the help I can get! Rachel is author of the Avalon: Web of Magic series. Which is not only a book series, but was also made into a manga. Plus we can look forward to a movie an Avalon movie!

Three very different young teens, Emily, the shy one, Adriane, the outsider, and Kara, the power shopper, are all drawn to a secret place deep in the woods where they discover a portal to another world. Wondrous animals have emerged from the portal, desperately seeking the magic that will keep them alive. Though the animals are peaceful and good, what follows them through the portal is twisted and evil and bent on destroying them all.
The Fairimentals have chosen these three fourteen-year-olds to protect the magical animals. To save them and their world, the girls must overcome their differences and band together. They begin a perilous quest to discover Avalon, the lost, legendary home of magic, little knowing the terrible dangers they will face along the way.

Rachel Roberts - Rachel's Writing Tips

Since so many of you have asked for tips to create your own stories, Attila, Raider, and I thought we'd share some writing secrets! Whether you're a writer starting with a blank page, a painter staring at a canvass or a sculptor shaping a lump of clay, creating is a process. It takes time, practice, and patience to bring your vision to life. Creativity can be hard work but it's always worth the effort. The important thing is to have fun!

WAIT! Don't write - yet:  You have to prepare first. Make some decisions about what kind of story you want to tell - action, adventure, fantasy, mystery - and who your characters are. But where do you get ideas?

You need input to get output:
To get your imagination flowing, start by doing something you like. Read a book, watch a movie, listen to music, walk in the forest - any experience that makes you feel inspired and ready to create.

Be open to ideas:
As a writer, part of your job to observe. Ideas- big and small- will come if you pay attention to the world around you. Maybe your cat did something so amazing that it gives you an idea for a magical creature, or your BFF had an interesting comment that made you think, or a ray of sunlight shining through a maple tree looked like a cloud of golden fairy dust. The more you study the real world, the truer and realer your own world and characters will feel.

Be ready to catch ideas:
If you don't grab that idea when it pops into your mind it, it might get lost. Carry a notebook so you're always prepared to jot things down. Soon you'll have a lot of cool stuff to help create your story. Some ideas you'll love and others you won't, but that's okay. You never know what will help build your story. Plus, when you feel stuck during writing, you can always go back to your notebook and find ideas to get you moving again.

The Big Idea:
You've immersed yourself in great stories, you have a collection of cool ideas, you're inspired, excited - now what? Here's what I do:

1. Write A Story Summary:
A story summary helps you answer the question, "Hey, what's your story about?" This will help you keep the big picture in mind as you start designing the beginning, middle, and end to your story. You can also use this summary for sales copy when you are ready to post your book online or print it. Here’s some examples of the Avalon book summaries:

Circles in the Stream:

Three very different teenage girls are all drawn to a secret place deep in the woods. There they discover a portal to another world through which strange and wondrous animals have emerged, searching desperately for the magic that will keep them alive. The animals are peaceful and good, but what follows them through the portal is pure evil. Emily, Adriane, and Kara have been chosen by magical beings called Fairimentals to protect the magical animals, though they don't know why. To save them and their world, the three girls must begin a quest to find the lost home of legendary magic, Avalon...or to perish trying.

 Secret of the Unicorn:

The problems in the magical world of Aldenmor are getting worse. Many new creatures are arriving in Ravenswood through the portal and they report that the Fairy Glen, home of the Fairimentals, has vanished. A frightened and terribly wounded unicorn is among the new refugees to Ravenswood. Can Emily communicate with her to offer help? The future of the magic web depends upon the dark secret the unicorn carries.

 2. Create Character Bios:
Write a short bio for each of your lead characters, including stats like age, hair color, eyes, height, likes and dislikes. Don't worry about selecting names. I always use placeholders (any name I can think of) until the perfect name comes to me.

 3. Build Your World:
Write a short description of the places in your story. Is it a fantasy world? Is it a zoo? Is it a mall? An old, spooky house? Know your environments to make your world feel real.

Keep your notes handy because as you start to write your story, you might want to update, expand or change these 3 things.

Okay, now that you have the basics it's time to start writing and start creating your own world.

Your fellow writer mage,
Rachel

Cover Reveal: Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it.
