After-life just got a lot more complicated

Maggie is a Soul Collector. It’s her job to transport souls from the Living Realm to the After – but during a mission to find a stolen soul, she ends up stuck in a teen mean girl’s body.

Trapped, Maggie’s soul is catapulted into Ally’s life – and the human world she hasn’t experienced for one hundred years. But, as a descendant of the most powerful beings in the After, Maggie must rescue Ally before the girl’s soul dies…

To survive, Maggie must uncover devastating secrets – because with one soul taken by a terrifying enemy, Maggie’s could be next!

This is one of those books that I had my eye on for a while. From the first cover reveal actually and for some reason I didn’t read it. Mostly just because I didn’t fit it into my schedule. With a little nudging I finally got a copy and wow why did I not read this sooner!! I loved it!!

I love a book that has a little mystery. As most books go we often figure out what is going on before the main character because well we have a different perspective and all the facts. What I really liked about this is that even though we do figure it out before the main character the timing of the information is well done. We don’t spend the whole book going why don’t you see this!!! It’s maybe a chapter. Katlyn Duncan did a great job of pacing out the information that we receive and don’t worry there a few surprises still.

I liked so many characters in this book. I really liked Maggie, she had this cold distant demeanor about her but she is also very intuitive. She is a soul collector but she lacks a little bit of humanity in her. Is it because she has been disconnected from the human world for so long or is it something else. Her path to discovery and in a way finding herself is one of my favorite parts of this book. Also that she is flawed and not perfectly innocent. By the end of the book I found her to be a well rounded character.

Cooper or Jackson? Cooper or Jackson? Alright if I was going to be on a team right now it would be...I don’t know I love both boys. I like how Maggie and Cooper interact with one another but you're not really sure if he’s into or not. With the whole being stuck in another body thing and Jackson, well there is a history there. It’s one of the things that makes me want to speed to the next book. It’s not really a love triangle per say because she is not committed to either boy. She is more focused on herself and what the heck is going on.

I love the world of the After. The different jobs and dimensions of it. You have the Soul Collectors, the Guards and then the head honchos. There are other facets too that come into play with Ally and Maggie’s stories. Plus there are the Shadowed, aka the bad guys.

So would I say read this? Yes absolutely. In fact I’m off to read book 2 right now…...
